Yankee Chapter: Making Waves With Old Outboards

Things to Consider When Judging

Here are some of the guidelines used by our Yankee Chapter Formal Meet Judges in past years. Read through the below and look at the sample judge sheet below before making entries on your ballot.

  • Make an initial review of the entries in each class so you are aware of the quantity and range of what has been entered.
  • Consider working with others to discuss the motors in each class. Award points by consensus. This method helps to share knowledge and improves everyone’s overall evaluation and future capabilities, as well as limiting the possibility of bias.
  • Feel free to consult with others on questions of authenticity or workmanship.
  • Try to set an average time per entry and be consistent to ensure fairness and completeness when evaluating each item.
  • If you have questions feel free to ask the owner if they are around. However, time should not be spent "visiting."
  • Objectively evaluate the authenticity and workmanship of the outboard, not the personality or reputation of the owner.

Here is a sample worksheet used by Yankee Chapter AOMCI Judges in past years. Review each point (as applicable) for the motors you are evaluating and use the tips above and the points system below to help you cast your vote.
